People of Rochester - Kerry
I met Kerry while he was sitting between blossoming Magnolia trees in the Oxford Street median, writing on his laptop, and enjoying Rochester's first summery weather of the season. He agreed to talk with me about his coronavirus lockdown experience.
Kerry's employer, Ward's Science, is making coronavirus test kits. "We're getting very busy," he said.
He's normally in Inventory Control, but everyone in the company, except office staff, has been recruited to work on the COVID-19 test kits. Office employees are now working from home, but anyone involved in building test kits goes in to work. Ward's Science follows social distancing guidelines for on-site workers.
One benefit of the quarantine is that it helps him to appreciate things that he might have taken for granted before the lockdown. There are lots of businesses he likes to patronize in the Rochester area, and he expects to be doing much more of that when things get back to normal.
Meanwhile, "I've gotten more into my writing," Kerry said. "I'm right in the middle of writing a sequel to my first book."
Kerry's first book, The Silent Sphinx, is an action-adventure, juvenile-fiction novel he wrote and self-published. The book is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Kerry misses getting out and connecting with people in a normal way. He does meet with friends, outside, and they maintain a safe distance from each other, but it's not the same.
